The 5-Step Formula for Magnetic Messaging That Feels Like YOU

Have you ever opened a Google Doc, tried to write a caption or update your website, and suddenly thought:

“Ugh. This doesn’t even sound like me.”

You delete, rewrite, reword and somehow, the more “professional” it sounds, the less like you it feels. Before you know it, you’re code-switching online and second-guessing every sentence.

Sound familiar?

If so, consider this your official permission slip to stop watering yourself down.

Because your dream clients don’t need you to sound like a polished copywriter. They need you to sound like YOU.

This post is based on the podcast episode below so if you want to learn how you can use magnetic messaging to attract aligned clients, without feeling fake or overly filtered, keep reading or hit play!

What Is Magnetic Messaging, Anyway?

Magnetic messaging is the kind of messaging that does the heavy lifting for you.

  • It stops the scroll.
  • It builds trust.
  • It makes your people go, “Omg, how are you in my head right now?”

In a world full of fluffy buzzwords and copy-paste captions, messaging that feels clear, real, and true to YOU is your superpower.

Let’s break down exactly how to craft it…

Step 1: Start with Clarity

Here’s the truth: you can have the most beautiful brand in the world, but if people don’t know what you do, who it’s for, and how it helps them?

They’ll bounce.

Your visuals grab attention. Your message? That’s what makes them stay.

So let’s simplify. At the very core, your message should answer:

  • Who do you help?
  • What do you help them do?
  • What’s the transformation/result?

Let’s compare two versions of the same idea:

❌ “I empower high-achieving women to step into their full potential.”
✅ “I help overwhelmed service providers simplify their brand so they can finally show up and sell.”

See the difference?

One is vague. The other? Clear as day and way more magnetic.

Step 2: Add Your Personality

Here’s your reminder: you are allowed to sound like a human.

In fact, you should.

So many business owners water themselves down in their messaging. Why? Usually because they’re afraid of sounding unprofessional or “too much.”

But real talk: your voice is your brand.

Whether you’re bubbly, sarcastic, nurturing, no-nonsense, or some delicious blend of it all and your people want that.

  • If you say “holy cheeseballs” in real life, say it in your captions too.
  • If you text your biz bestie, “OMG I just made the cutest sales page,” that tone can 100% show up in your website copy too.

This is especially important when it comes to messaging for service providers because clients are hiring you, not a robot. And definitely not a carbon copy of someone else in your niche.

Step 3: Speak to Emotion, Not Just Offers

Let’s make something clear:

  • Magnetic messaging isn’t just about what you say. It’s about how it makes your audience feel.

Most people focus so much on what they offer (packages, sessions, bonuses) that they forget to tap into the emotions behind the decision to buy.

That’s where connection is built.

Think about what your audience is feeling right now…. Are they frustrated? Stuck? Dreaming of something specific? Afraid of wasting more time?

When you reflect their thoughts and feelings back to them, they feel seen. That’s when they lean in.

Instead of saying: “I offer 1:1 design support for entrepreneurs.”

Try: “You’re DIYing your brand and second-guessing everything. You’re ready for someone to just take the wheel and make it look and feel like you. That’s what I’m here for.”

See the difference? One lists a service. The other builds trust and resonance.

Step 4: Check Your Mindset. You Don’t Have to Sound Like Everyone Else

Let’s pause for a moment and be real.

Why do we default to generic, over-polished, “I-help” sounding messaging in the first place?

It usually comes from fear:

  • “Will I sound professional enough?”
  • “Will people take me seriously?”
  • “What if someone thinks I’m too much?”

And yes, your real voice might turn someone off.

But here’s the thing: that’s a feature, not a flaw.

Because when you’re truly you in your messaging, it will also turn the right people all the way ON.

You are not for everyone, and your message shouldn’t be either.

Let go of the pressure to sound like everyone else in your industry. The goal isn’t to blend in. It’s to stand out by being fully yourself.

Step 5: Audit & Tweak Your Message

Now that you understand the why and how of magnetic messaging, let’s talk about what you can actually do this week to make it real.

These tweaks are simple but huge. If your messaging feels even a little bit off, here’s where to start.

1. Ditch the Buzzwords (for real)

Here’s a quick test:

If a phrase sounds like it belongs on a generic corporate brochure, it’s probably not helping you stand out.

Buzzwords like:

  • “Empower”
  • “Elevate”
  • “Unleash your potential”
  • “Game-changer”
  • “Disruptive solutions”

…might sound fancy, but they don’t say anything specific.

What to do instead: Replace vague language with clear, everyday words that describe what you actually do.

❌ “I empower women to become their best selves.”
✅ “I help burnt-out moms reclaim their mornings so they feel human again.”

Pro tip: If your grandma wouldn’t understand what you do, it’s time to rewrite it.

2. Simplify Your Elevator Pitch

Can you explain what you do in 10 words or less?

No pressure to be “perfect,” but simplifying your pitch helps you stay top-of-mind and makes it way easier for people to refer or remember you.

Try this fill-in-the-blank format:

“I help [WHO] [DO WHAT] so they can [RESULT].”

For example: “I help creative entrepreneurs clarify their brand message so they can attract dream clients.”

3. Rewrite Your Website Headline

The first few words someone reads on your site should:

  • Say what you do
  • Show who it’s for
  • Sound like YOU

If your homepage headline is still something like:

“Helping people live their best lives”

…it’s time to get more specific and more human.

Try this instead: “Brand strategy for heart-centered service providers who want to be seen, sold, and still sound like themselves.”

Quick tip: Read your headline out loud. Does it sound like how you talk in real life? If not, it’s not magnetic yet.

4. Check Your Last 3 Posts or Emails

Do they sound like you? Or do they sound like you’re trying to be someone else?

Pick one and try this rewrite exercise:

  • Say it out loud like you’re telling a friend
  • Notice how you actually explain it
  • Now write that version down

Example before: “At Spark & Soul Design Studio, I offer strategic branding packages for service-based businesses.”

Rewritten in my voice: “I help you stop second-guessing your brand and finally show up like the expert you are – no more hiding behind Canva templates and generic messaging.”

Now that is magnetic.

5. Use Your Clients’ Actual Language

This one’s a game-changer…

Go scroll through:

  • Client DMs
  • Testimonials
  • Discovery call notes
  • Voice messages

Then highlight:

  • Phrases they repeat
  • Words they use to describe their pain points or desires
  • Casual language that feels real

These are GOLD. Why?

Because when your audience sees their own words reflected in your message, they immediately feel seen. And that’s where trust begins.

Example: Client says: “I just want someone to tell me what to say on my website. I’m too close to it.”

You could turn that into messaging like: “Too close to your business to know what to say? I help service providers get the words just right so their brand finally clicks (with clients and with themselves).”

Bonus Fix: Create a “Voice Bank”

Start a doc or note in your phone called Voice Bank and save:

  • Words or phrases you love saying
  • Fun analogies or expressions you use in real life
  • Emojis you use a lot
  • Common client phrases or questions

Then, when you’re writing copy? Pull from that bank.

This keeps your messaging consistent and keeps it sounding like you even when you’re on deadline or not feeling super inspired.

You don’t need a whole rebrand to make your message more magnetic.

You just need to make small shifts that bring your clarity, connection, and voice into sharper focus.

These are the tweaks that move your messaging from “meh” to “omg, I need to work with her.”

Final Thoughts: Clarity. Connection. Confidence.

The magic of magnetic messaging isn’t found in some secret script.

It’s found in the intersection of clarity, connection, and confidence.

  • Clarity about what you do and who it’s for.
  • Connection to the feelings and needs of your people.
  • Confidence to show up in your actual voice – quirks, slang, emojis and all.

You don’t have to sound like a professional copywriter.

You don’t need a “perfect” elevator pitch.

You just need to stop hiding.

And if something in this post made you nod or smile? Come say hey on Instagram. I’d love to hear what resonated with you.
